Festival and concert-goers have been named amongst the biggest victims of fraudulent tickets, with reports peaking in the festival season.

The Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo) have called on ticket distributors to take more responsibility over the sale of fraudulent tickets, as figures reveal that consumers handed over £3.7m to fraudsters last year. A total of 4,555 reports were made last year and 22 victims lost £10,000 or more. Cdr Head, of the City of London Police said the responsibility for tackling the problem lay with ticket distributors, as well as the police:

“I am calling on the industry to take a long hard look at the way tickets are sometimes sold in this country to ensure their processes are as resilient as they possibly can be to the growing threat of fraud.”
