Music biographer (Syd Barrett, psychedelia, pirate radio, junk shop and car boot ephemera) novelist and cultural historian. Sometime hackademic. Previous experience includes freelance radio broadcaster with BBC national network, music journalist (Mojo, Uncut, Word, The Times), football writer (When Saturday Comes and Four Four Two) and singer/lyricist with Bristol avant-punk band Glaxo Babies. The first gig he ever went to was Lonnie Donegan at Bedford Granada in 1960 when he was five. The second with Blind Faith in Hyde Park in 1969.
