Laceys are solicitors with a difference when it comes to festivals and licensing work, as we have hands on experience ourselves.
Meet Brendan Herbert and Philip Day – two of our Licensing team partners who have passion for events beyond their day jobs. Brendan is part of the award-winning team behind the 2000 Trees Festival which has been going strong since 2007, while Philip provides legal advice to NOEA and organizes large scale events in his hometown of Ringwood, Dorset. Byron Sims has many years of hands on experience in the bar and entertainment world. As a team we act for many festivals and events, as well as bars, hotels and restaurants.
The Laceys Licensing team also won Best Support to the Events Industry at the NOEA awards in 2022, proving reassurance we get the job done and put your mind at ease.
Our Licensing team can assist with all of your licensing needs from getting your first licence, successfully obtaining variations, assisting with SAG meetings, and advising you in relation to any concerns or issues which arise, such as requests for compulsory policing, and the upcoming impact of Martyn’s Law. We are also ready to advise, assist and ultimately represent you at a hearings in front of licensing committees, or during appeals to Magistrates’ court, should the need arise.
Alongside our Licensing team, we are a full service law firm with Property, Dispute and Corporate Commercial teams who can help with advising on other legal aspects that need to be considered when running a festival, which could include your company structure, drafting terms and conditions for tickets sales and event entry, drafting and negotiating contracts with sub-contractors, artists, sponsors etc, advising on employment contracts, and GDPR compliance.
Organising and managing a festival can be daunting. There are a lot of things that could potentially go sideways, and having the right legal guidance and resources is crucial to the success of the event. Don’t leave it to chance – make sure you have a legal expert on your team before you hit the stage.
