DIGITAL ECONOMY BILL AMENDED IN FIGHT AGAINST SECONDARY TICKETING

The Government has made a welcomed amendment to the Digital Economy Bill which will see the use of ticket bots now classified as a criminal offence with unlimited fines. FINALLY.They are also accepting recommendations from Professor Waterson’s review which called for the secondary sites to put tougher anti-bot measures in place as well as reporting bot attacks and stronger enforcement of consumer rights laws in general. The Government will also be funding an enforcement investigation into suspected breaches of consumer protection law in the online secondary ticketing market to be conducted by National Trading Standards and the Competition & Markets Authority. This is excellent news for those who have been campaigning against secondary ticketing for the best part of a decade.
